Valverde Appoints Man Wing Chung as Portfolio Manager and Director of Hong Kong; Firm to Launch Asia ex-Japan Strategy

Valverde Investment Partners announces the appointment of Man Wing Chung, bringing over 34 years of Asia ex-Japan investment experience, to lead the firm's newly established Hong Kong office and serve as Portfolio Manager for a dedicated Asia ex-Japan equity strategy launching in 2026.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HONG KONG / SINGAPORE — 02 September 2026 — Valverde Investment Partners ("Valverde"), the Singapore-headquartered active Asian equity manager, today announced the appointment of Man Wing Chung as Portfolio Manager and Director of the firm's newly established Hong Kong office. The appointment underpins Valverde's planned launch of a dedicated Asia ex-Japan equity strategy later this year, extending the firm's franchise beyond its ASEAN roots into the broader Asia ex-Japan universe.

Mr. Chung brings over 34 years of Asia ex-Japan investment experience, having covered Greater China, Korea, and Taiwan across multiple market cycles from Hong Kong since the early 1990s. He joins Valverde from Axial Partners, where he served as Chief Investment Officer. Earlier in his career, Mr. Chung held roles as Chief Investment Officer at VMS Group; Investment Director at Value Partners; Head of Greater China at JPMorgan Asset Management; and Chief Investment Officer, Far East ex-Japan Equities at HSBC Asset Management — all based in Hong Kong.

In his new role, Mr. Chung will lead Valverde's Hong Kong operations and serve as Portfolio Manager for the firm's Asia ex-Japan strategy — a long-only, high-conviction mandate spanning Mainland China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, ASEAN, and India. The strategy will be managed with the same disciplined, fundamental investment process that anchors Valverde's existing ASEAN franchise: conviction-driven and non-benchmark constrained, targeting absolute returns through a concentrated portfolio of 30 to 40 stocks. The launch is expected in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Mr. Chung will be supported by Michael Lee, Research Analyst, also based in Hong Kong.

"Man Wing is one of the most experienced Asia ex-Japan investors of his generation, and his appointment is the cornerstone of our Hong Kong build-out. Our conviction has always been that Asia ex-Japan deserves a dedicated, specialist mandate — not the generalist compromises of a global emerging markets fund, nor the closet-indexing that constrains many larger, benchmark-driven managers. With Man Wing on the ground in Hong Kong, we are now able to offer institutional investors a partner-led specialist approach across the full breadth of Asian equity markets."

— John Foo, Founder and Chief Investment Officer, Valverde Investment Partners
"Valverde has built a distinctive boutique with deep regional expertise, a clear governance-first investment philosophy, and an investment culture I have long admired. There is a compelling case today for active, fundamental investing across Asia ex-Japan — particularly in markets where governance reform, structural growth, and technology leadership are converging. I intend to run a concentrated, high-conviction portfolio that is genuinely willing to be out of consensus when the evidence supports it, focused on absolute returns rather than managing to a benchmark."

— Man Wing Chung, Portfolio Manager, Asia ex-Japan

The Hong Kong office complements Valverde's Singapore headquarters and the firm's regional research presence in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Ho Chi Minh City. Valverde is regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a holder of a Capital Markets Services Licence, holds a Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission Type 9 Licence, and is a US SEC Exempt Reporting Adviser. The firm currently manages the ASEAN+ Fund (a Singapore Variable Capital Company) and the Hereford Valverde ASEAN Fund, a Luxembourg-domiciled UCITS launched on 30 March 2026.
